FastEagle: Cascaded Drafting for Accelerating Speculative Decoding

Huang, Haiduo, Song, Jiangcheng, Zhao, Wenzhe, Ren, Pengju

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Speculative decoding accelerates generation by drafting candidates and verifying them in parallel, yet state-of-the-art drafters (e.g., EAGLE) still require N sequential passes to propose N tokens. We present FastEagle, a non-autoregressive cascaded drafter that emits an entire draft in a single forward pass. FastEagle replaces temporal steps with a lightweight layer cascade and trains with layer-wise supervision to mitigate error accumulation. Coupled with a constrained draft tree that preserves lossless verification cost, FastEagle delivers substantial wall-clock speedups over strong autoregressive drafters while maintaining competitive acceptance behavior. Across multiple LLMs (Vicuna-13B, LLaMA-Instruct 3.x, and DeepSeek-R1-Distill-LLaMA) and tasks (MT-Bench, HumanEval, GSM8K, CNN/DM, Alpaca), FastEagle consistently outperforms EAGLE-3 in speedup under both greedy and stochastic decoding, with comparable average acceptance lengths. These results indicate that removing sequential dependencies in drafting is a practical path toward lossless LLM inference acceleration.

Training Cross-Morphology Embodied AI Agents: From Practical Challenges to Theoretical Foundations

Liu, Shaoshan, Wang, Fan, Zhou, Hongjun, Wang, Yuanfeng

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

While theory and practice are often seen as separate domains, this article shows that theoretical insight is essential for overcoming real-world engineering barriers. We begin with a practical challenge: training a cross-morphology embodied AI policy that generalizes across diverse robot morphologies. We formalize this as the Heterogeneous Embodied Agent Training (HEAT) problem and prove it reduces to a structured Partially Observable Markov Decision Process (POMDP) that is PSPACE-complete. This result explains why current reinforcement learning pipelines break down under morphological diversity, due to sequential training constraints, memory-policy coupling, and data incompatibility. We further explore Collective Adaptation, a distributed learning alternative inspired by biological systems. Though NEXP-complete in theory, it offers meaningful scalability and deployment benefits in practice. This work illustrates how computational theory can illuminate system design trade-offs and guide the development of more robust, scalable embodied AI. For practitioners and researchers to explore this problem, the implementation code of this work has been made publicly available at https://github.com/airs-admin/HEAT

UK plays catch-up with artificial intelligence and robotics

#artificialintelligence

An impressive array of robots serves as a fitting backdrop for Stewart Miller, the CEO of the new National Robotarium, in a large and mostly empty space in a swish new building on the campus of Heriot-Watt University on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Launched in September in partnership with Edinburgh University, the center aims to bolster the UK's artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics sector, which Miller believes is lagging behind the major players. "We're rich in research in AI," he explains, "but where we tend to stumble – not just with AI, but with other technology as well – is when we try to take it out of the research setting and apply it. That's why we've been set up." In the weeks and months ahead this large, sparse space will fill up as it welcomes various tenant start-up AI and robotics firms and takes them under its wing.

Hidden Signatures of Parkinson's Disease Uncovered by Artificial Intelligence and Robotics

#artificialintelligence

New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) Research Institute collaborates with Google Research to identify new cellular characteristics of disease in skin cells from Parkinson's patients. A study published today (March 25, 2022) in Nature Communications unveils a new platform for discovering cellular signatures of disease that integrates robotic systems for studying patient cells with artificial intelligence methods for image analysis. Using their automated cell culture platform, scientists at the NYSCF Research Institute collaborated with Google Research to successfully identify new cellular hallmarks of Parkinson's disease by creating and profiling over a million images of skin cells from a cohort of 91 patients and healthy controls. "Traditional drug discovery isn't working very well, particularly for complex diseases like Parkinson's," noted NYSCF CEO Susan L. Solomon, JD. "The robotic technology NYSCF has built allows us to generate vast amounts of data from large populations of patients, and discover new signatures of disease as an entirely new basis for discovering drugs that actually work." "This is an ideal demonstration of the power of artificial intelligence for disease research," added Marc Berndl, Software Engineer at Google Research.

How artificial intelligence and robotics have changed the oncology landscape in India - ET HealthWorld

#artificialintelligence

Dr Rama Joshi The incidence of cancer is rising steadily globally as well as in our country. Around 13 lakh new cancer cases were diagnosed in India in 2020 as per ICMR. Cancer not only impacts the person's health but also has social psychological and economical implications. The word cancer is used to define a collection of diseases that share one unique characteristic – the uncontrolled growth of cells having the potential to spread to other parts of the body. Its site of origin defines the primary cancer and affects all age groups.
